Cookie Policy

Which cookies and browser storage the Harvard Digital Academy website uses, why, and how to change your choice.

1What cookies are

Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Browser storage (local and session storage) works the same way but stays on your device. We use both only as described here.

2Your choice

On your first visit a banner lets you accept all, reject all or choose. Analytics and advertising cookies load only after you allow them. You can change your choice at any time from "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page, or by clearing cookies in your browser.

3Essential (always on)

  • hda.session_token — keeps staff and students signed in to the admin and student portal. Expires when you sign out or after the session ends.
  • hda_consent (cookie, 1 year) and hda-cookie-consent-v1 (browser storage) — remember your cookie choice so we do not ask again.
  • hda-visit (session storage) — a random number for the current tab, so our own visit counts can tell one visit from many. Deleted when you close the tab.
  • hda-guide-popup (browser storage) — remembers that you have seen the course-guide pop-up, so it does not keep appearing.
  • _ga, _ga_<ID> — Google Analytics 4: counts visits and pages viewed. Up to 2 years.
  • _clck, _clsk, CLID, ANONCHK, MUID — Microsoft Clarity: anonymised clicks and scrolling to improve page layout. Up to 1 year.
  • _gcl_au, _gcl_aw — Google Ads: tells us which ads led to an enquiry. Up to 90 days.
  • Google may also set its own cookies on google.com domains when you have accepted advertising cookies; see policies.google.com/technologies/cookies.

We use Google Consent Mode v2. Your choice is passed to Google's tags as consent signals for analytics storage, ad storage, ad user data and ad personalisation, so the tags only do what you allowed.
